professor atwood ( office ) tab updates on monday tab considered late by thursday tab ambiance: controlled chaos, either loud and unruly or shockingly quiet

Potions VII is a Monday/Wednesday course starting at 11:00pm, that ends at 11:45 pm.
It is a 45 minute class period focused on potion preparation, brewing, proper storage, and memorization of all the above.
A main focus of the class is to prepare students for their N.E.W.T. examinations.

                        Assignments & Labs: 60% tab Lectures & Notetaking: 5% tab Tests & Quizzes: 10% tab Reading & Memorizing: 25%

                        classroom description

Located in the a large dungeon under the Hogwarts castle, there is a singular large u-shape stone staircase that leads all students below. Entering the classroom, there are large pitched windows bringing in an unknown bright light into the dim room that shines between worktables. Each worktable is rectangular and made of a slab of dark stone, large enough to fit one student on each side with their cauldron and materials. There is a small alcove for a bookshelf holding various potion textbooks and guides. Beside it, there is a secondary room that holds various ingredients for potions. This room is locked and can only be accessed by the professor and trusted students.

There is a soft hum to the room if you listen intently. Every so often, there's a sound of a rushing train "outside" or a car honking in traffic. An illusion of somewhere else underneath the sounds of boiling liquids and candles burning. The room always runs cold, there's nothing to do about it other than putting on a sweater. There is the sweet smell of coffee that lingers from the professor's desk.

An extremely casual class due to its proficiency level. It is mostly self-directed with potion assignments already on the chalk board.
There is a small sense of intensity due to the sheer volume of potions requested to be created. (number changes based on the level of potion)
Controlled chaos, books always fly back into the bookcase once the student has left the room for the day.
The meticulous system of cleanliness and organization displayed in potions v and potions vi is not here.

" your stations is in an embarrassing state, but it's yours. you choose it to be your everlasting impression to your professor. it's a choice to be remembered this way, and it's yours. "

                        classroom rules to follow

stations should be set up and ready before class begins.
talking is encouraged, and done often.
potion quality evaluations are done during class, as well as notes from the professor in improvements.
next lesson's required materials will be written along side the day's lesson on the chalkboard.
creating potions prior to class is prohibited, but not actually enforced.

                        roleplayers guide

Professor Atwood seems to focus on his own pursuits for the first half of the class. such as reading, grading, and sometimes testing his own potions. He expects Year Sevens to understand how to manage their time in prepping for their success. You will see him be much more casual and chatty due to this. Is it a test of your discipline? Maybe, but he just likes a good chat some times. the second half is direct instruction between professor and student. he will give aid to every student at least one (usually twice) by the end of class. practice makes perfect.

participation is your character's attempt to completed the potions prompted in the lesson or interaction with another character (student or professor).
if you'd like professor interaction, please tag Sugarnaut.
otherwise, the thread is open to freeplay. the professor may intervene if there is too much mischief.

                        tests & quizzes

quizzes are done every class and are graded in class. (very american of him, really!)
there are no tests. your grade is reflected by potion quality and class/lab time utilization.

by the end of the year, the potion creation list is randomized rather than based on year taught.
this is purely a test of memory.

tab Example: First week of class may ask students to create Forgetfulness Potion, Boil-Cure Potion, and Wiggenweld Potion, all Year 1 Potions.
tab The last week before exams may ask students to create Swelling Solution (Year 2), Herbicide Potion (Year 3), and Amortentia (Year 6)

                        homework, essays, & extra credit

Homework is based on what potions and reflective assignments you did not complete during class time.
Essay assignments are vital in this class to show knowledge outside of performance. Usually theory, procedural instructions, etc.
Potion making, lab work, and assignments are the sole indicators of your grade.

extra credit is only given to those making up a grade, and must be turned into the professor's office.
