Name: Magnesse Melrose (her parents were hoping so hard for a boy that they had a name picked out...and had to "adjust" the back end to make it a girl's name)

Nickname: Any permutation of "Mag" or "Meg" is preferable to her actual name (Mag, Mags, Maggie, Meg, Megs, Meggie, etc)

Gender/Pronoun: She/her

Age: 16

Birthday: April 20, 2010

Sign: Aries/Taurus cusp!

Gemstone: Amber

Blood Type: (Optional)

Fav. Food: Cherry limeade

Hated Food: Any form of preserved herring can die in a fire

School/Occupation: St. Magdalena's Seminary (high school) if boarding's an option, Crystal Academy (high school) if boarding isn't an option

Hobbies:

Trashy Romance Novels
Despite being functionally the child of a trashy romance novel (albeit one with a very unhappy ending), Mags has a fondness for trashy romance novels, the trashier, the better. Because she doesn't want to deal with the social hassle of having them in a dorm room she has to share with another human being, she borrows them from the library, reads them as quickly as possible in private while keeping them in her school bag, and then promptly returns them from the library early, if at all possible. Mags isn't entirely sure why they appeal. Maybe she wants to judge the characters, maybe she simply wishes to live in their world, but, either way, she can escape from the unpleasant reality that is her life while within the pages of this guilty pleasure.

Poetry
Mags first got interested in poetry through classes, and started to scribe down her thoughts as poems she keeps in a separate pocket notebook she hides at the bottom of her school bag. It's not that her poems are bad, per se, it's just that Mags feels insecure about the poetry in some way she can't fully articulate. Published poetry is a beautiful expression of the human mind and soul, even when it comes from a human trash heap; Mags' poetry is, from her perspective, amateurish drivel that allows her a moment to get certain thoughts she'd rather not publicly express out of her head and onto a page that nobody else gets to see.

Singing
Mags is a pretty decent singer, quite good, really, and enjoys singing, as well. What started as "a good way for any young lady to express herself in a genteel and refined manner, girls" led into joining the school choir, where Mags sings mezzo-soprano. She enjoys the challenge of singing a piece well and with feeling (and also enjoys the praise people give her based purely on her sound, not her looks, not her dumpster fire of a family background and upbringing). Preferred pieces are operatic and other classical pieces.

Figure Drawing
There's something sort of peaceful about sitting in a studio, drawing the person before you in all honesty. Consequently, the contents of her school bag include a sketchbook she's slowly filling up with figure drawings and studies of the human body and how it moves. There's a kind of honesty in drawing the world around her, particularly the people, and doing it in such a way that people have to admire the frank humanity of the piece.

Virtues: These are positive aspects about your character's personality that affect them on a daily basis, and are things your character could be praised and admired for. These traits shouldn’t be too specific or only manifest in specific situations (such as ‘likes animals’), shouldn’t be overpowered (such as ‘Perfect’), and shouldn’t be based on their physical appearance (such as ‘pretty’). Virtues are things that are directly related to how your character behaves. Traits should be balanced, so all profiles need an equal number of Virtues and Flaws and should not contradict each other.

Hardworking

Organized

Driven

Honest

Example:

Outgoing -- Matt is an outgoing guy. He's always the life of the party, and loves to socialize. He is always eager to make new friends, and he isn’t afraid to try new things. His social battery never seems to deplete, and his kind and carefree demeanor makes him easy to be around. He is always enthusiastic and gives everything his best effort.

Flaws: These are negative aspects about your character's personality that affect them on a daily basis, and are things your character could be disliked or criticized. These traits shouldn’t be too specific or only manifest in specific situations (such as ‘hates kids’), shouldn’t be based on fears (such as ‘afraid of the dark’), and shouldn’t be based on anything that manifests physically (such as ‘clumsy’). Phobias and illnesses (physical or mental) are not viable flaws. Flaws are things that are directly related to how your character behaves. Traits should be balanced, so all profiles need an equal number of Virtues and Flaws and should not contradict each other.

Insecure

Judgy

Jaded

Rebellious

Example:

Forgetful -- Matt can be overenthusiastic and often bites off more than he can chew. He will agree to obligations or plans and completely forget that he’s made a commitment. He can come across as fickle and flaky because it’s never guaranteed that he’ll actually show up. He tends to forget names, dates, and other important things regularly and needs to be frequently reminded about important things. It is easy for him to become distracted and he often jumps from one thing to the next; he can come across as careless and negligent.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

See won art

Eyes: Large, honey-colored

Hair: Bright red falling in ringlets to her shoulders, with bangs past her eyebrows, but above her eyes

Face: Heart-shaped, with a thick dusting of freckles over her nose and cheekbones

Skin Tone: Very pale, with a slight yellow tint

Body Type: Coltish and flatter than she'd like

Clothes: Girly, and intended to enhance what few curves nature gave her; bright, lighter colors are a must; fluttery, full skirts, corsets, if it makes her look more girly and less boyish, then she wants it

Note for myself: Mags was born out of wedlock to a well-born Swedish father, and a mother who planned to use the birth of a son to try to force her flashy, well-born Swedish boyfriend to stick around. Her mother was so convinced she'd have a son that she used this knowledge to persuade her boyfriend to stick around for the birth, and even prematurely named the baby "Magnus" for its father. The birth of a healthy baby girl destroyed any hope of manipulating the Swedish boyfriend to marry Mags' mother, though Mags personally suspects her father would have eventually figured out a way to weasel his way out of the relationship, and get custody of any and all sons produced from her mother, who probably would have always been considered his American sidepiece.

In a desperate attempt to salvage things, the baby was named "Magnesse", but Mags' father only stayed around long enough for the nurses to get his name to put on the birth certificate before he stormed out of the hospital and mostly cut Mags and her mother out of his life. He still sends money for Mags' upbringing and education, on the off-chance that, if he really needs to assert paternity over Mags for any reason, he can claim that he's still been involved in Mags' life. Consequently, he has a lawyer in America to ensure the money only gets spent on Mags.

Mags' mother...did not take any of this well. She'd always been a little bit of a trashy, manipulative person, but Mags quickly became an eyesore and a target for her manipulative behavior. "If only you'd been born a boy," "If only you were prettier," "If only you were smarter," etc, has been the song of her life, and Mags' feelings on her mother are fairly mutual. "If only you weren't such a trash person," "If only you'd actually formed a healthy relationship with someone who wasn't going to dump you the minute someone he actually wanted to show off to his social circle walked past," have been her responses. Mags isn't a very nice person, but she wasn't raised by nice people, either. Ironically, her dad acted the way that Khazran thinks his father will someday act (but actually won't act).

I definitely want Mags to eventually Awaken into a Ganymede knight (Toulouse of Ganymede), but will probably have her first do a stint in the Negaverse (as Greigite). I could see her doing it, with the eventual sideswap giving her the opportunity to finally (unintentionally) break free from her family's toxic bs. My initial thought might be that her father, for whatever reason, pushes her into the Negaverse ostensibly as a way to forge her own path away from her mother...while his real reason would be something that would be explicitly to get something beneficial from the Negaverse, but that's something to troubleshoot at a later date.
