IKR. I am happy, there was no reason to arrest her in the first place, she wasn't even there at the time of the murder. Just some italians thinking oh, she's american, she must have killed her roommate.

I am glad that she has gotten back to the US. I did read that the appeals court has already filed an appeal about her release.

 I was so glad to hear they let her go. I've been rooting for Amanda for years. If she'd been in the US, she would never even have been charged in the first place.

The Full English Epcot Illuminations IKR. I am happy, there was no reason to arrest her in the first place, she wasn't even there at the time of the murder. Just some italians thinking oh, she's american, she must have killed her roommate. I think that's a bit racist. At the time the evidence proved she was guilty, it's only been recently new evidence prove she wasn't. The original DNA evidence was compromised; it was not handled according to protocol and was able to be contaminated. It would have been inadmissible here in the States. And the "evidence" that made them suspect Amanda in the first place was the fact that her story was inconsistent during interrogation. However, it only became inconsistent because after questioning her repeatedly for days as a witness and not getting the story they wanted, they proceeded to lock her in an interview room for hours on end without a lawyer (they threatened her and told her that having a lawyer would just make it worse on her, despite it being illegal in Italy to interrogate a suspect without a lawyer) OR a translator (she was not yet fully fluent in Italian at the time) or anything to eat or drink. She was physically abused and threatened, presented with hypothetical scenarios and questions that were designed to make her get confused and change her story.

Anecdotally, when I visited Italy in July 2001, one of the first things that I saw upon stepping off the boat that took us into Venice was anti-US graffiti. It was unsettling to say the least, but I doubt that anti-American sentiments were the motivation against Amanda. They were simply confused by her coping mechanisms (she did a lot of exercises: jumping jacks/cartwheels/etc. to burn off the nervous energy) and they probably targeted her for the illegal, over-aggressive interrogation as a result of that misunderstanding. The girl was super-naive and had never been in this kind of situation before, so she had no idea of the "appropriate" way to handle the stress.

Sorry I think you miss understood what i meant, mostly from my poor explanation. I'm on my phone at the minute but when I get home, I'll try to explain better, my orginal post.
