First off: I wanted to say that I am new to the guild and after a while of lurking have finally worked up the courage to post. lol So nice to meet all of you. biggrin

Down to business: I was just wondering if any of you have read Fahrenheit 451 by: Ray Bradbury? I'm sure at least some of you have since it seems that most of you, like myself, are in high school and it is predominately read in high school. Anyway, personally I am currently reading this book and my mom and I after having shown her Repo! and having her occasionally help me with F451 stuff (such as bounce ideas about what certain things mean and stuff of that nature) she mentioned that she saw similarities between the two and I couldn't help but agree. So before I mention the similarities that we see I want to know if any of you who have read F451 and see any such similarities what-so-ever....Of course maybe I'm just looking to far into things and they are not the same at all...lol

Well, it's kind of hard to organize...I do think that there many similarities between Montag and Nathan. Montag is to Beatty while Nathan is to Rotti. They both grow to despise their jobs, while for different reasons, and they both have someone who's trying to "control" them. While Rotti is saying, "Don't deny your repo life," Beatty is saying, "...if you ask why to a lot of things you wind up unhappy."
Nathan is poison Shilo keeping her from the horrors of the world you have a parallel to the firemen and government in the F451 universe who want to "dumb down" society to control them and as Beatty mentions that what they are doing is supposed to make the public a lot happier which like Shilo is not the case taking into account to number of people who overdose on sleeping pills. So in a way Shilo=the society in the F451 universe.
Although I have not yet finished the book I do know that the town is destroyed in the end much like Geneco is, somewhat, left in ruins after Rotti dies during the opera.
There are other similarities that I have seen but at the moment I can't think of them.
